Salmon Returns & Halibut Reports

Posted by donna in Untagged

It’s a new year and we’re excited to get things going, Here is a fishing report that originated in a publication from Washington State that I’ve received a couple of times. It sounds good!!

WHY was the salmon fishing so good in 2010? WHY did the sockeye salmon return in the highest numbers since fisheries started tracking the returns?

Pacific Safaris Oct 2010 Fish Report

Posted by Pacific Safaris in Untagged

2010 proved to be a great year for Pacific Safaris Lodge & Marina! The fishing from the beginning of June through the middle of September was as impressive as we’ve seen in the 11 years at the lodge. We had terrific clients and would like to thank them all and the staff & guides for helping to make it a fabulous season!

Posted by Adrian OConnor in Untagged

Hello Everyone! I would first like to thank everybody who fished with us this past season. Your business is greatly appreciated. The entire summer went off without a glitch, and as usual, the fishing around Esperanza once again proved to be the World Class fishery I am always bragging about

Northwest Passage Adventure

Posted by donna in Untagged

Things have been super busy around here these past few days. Between hauling out packaged fish for clients and daily clean up and prep chores, we managed to pull the little boat from the water to scrape the bottom of barnacles and algae. Not a pleasant job but sure makes the other garbage and propane duties much faster to and from the lodge!

The little boat is now called The Safari Otter after many early years of wearing a yellow stripe from the stern curving up at the bow, and then fondly called The Banana. Now with the “no bananas” hype for bad luck when fishing; a few years back, I had scraped and stripped the yellow paint leaving it bare aluminium. There has been a few discussions on the origin of the banana theory, linking back to spiders in the banana crates killing the crew. Whatever the story, it’s a great little run-a-bout work boat and the girls enjoy their little trips from the lodge in the evening to dump the compost while Meaghan plays a little guitar to practice.

Bob Soper's Fishing Tales

Posted by donna in Untagged

So I may have spoken too soon again about the drive from Gold River to Tahsis. Yesterday I left the lodge at 7:30 am heading to Campbell River for a grub run. After helping Dayle, with garbage and cardboard disposal (no burning due to the extreme heat and dry weather we’ve been having) so I didn’t quite get to Campbell River until 12:00 noon to start my shopping day.

My Working Vacation

Posted by donna in Untagged

Hello, Donna here on my working vacation at Pacific Safaris Lodge, home to Nootka Island Fishing Club. Time to enjoy some sunshine on the west coast and be with my family to help out with hospitality or anywhere I can around the lodge. The girls have now grown into head positions; Erin as our outstanding cook this season & Dayle managing the whole show from fish care & vacuum packaging to invoicing and generator, propane and garbage duties! Meaghan and Rachel help a whole bunch too and guests this year are truly impressed with the food and service provided to them.
